Chapter 6 - The Mockery

Close-up: Valeria threw her head back and let out a sharp, incredibly loud, and deeply sarcastic laugh that echoed harshly off the massive crystal chandelier hanging above the dining table.
"Are you completely out of your mind?" Valeria scoffed, pointing her diamond-adorned finger directly at the frail, silent woman in the wheelchair, treating her like a piece of broken furniture. "She hasn’t spoken a single word in over a year! Her brain is entirely gone! You are obviously having a mental breakdown, you stupid girl."
Valeria turned her gaze toward the heavily armed enforcers standing near the grand mahogany doors, her face twisted with absolute, toxic entitlement.
"Security, get this lying, hysterical girl out of my dining room immediately!" Valeria shrieked, entirely abandoning her sophisticated poise. "Throw her and her belongings out onto the street! I will not have my elegant dinner party ruined by a delusional servant!"
The armed guards in black suits immediately stepped forward, preparing to physically drag the young maid out of the mansion.
But before the guards could even cross the polished marble floor, a completely different, incredibly powerful voice entirely shattered the tension in the room, stopping the massive men completely dead in their tracks.
"Hold on."
The voice didn't come from the doorway. It came from the center of the long dining table.

Valeria's sarcastic smile faltered slightly as she turned her head, realizing that the one man in the room she couldn't control had just inserted himself into the confrontation. The absolute last thing she wanted was for her husband to look closely at the old woman's medical condition.
