Chapter 4 - The Buried Truth

The absolute, crushing magnitude of the discovery hit Claire with the physical force of a freight train.

"Who is this?" Claire choked out, completely unable to process the image. The woman in the photograph wasn't a stranger. It was her own mother, who had tragically died in a suspicious hit-and-run accident exactly twenty years ago.

Dominic didn't answer her. He didn't have time.

A wide cinematic shot captured the breathtaking, terrifying stakes of the moment. Claire sat entirely frozen, clutching the photograph of her dead mother, tears of profound confusion and terror filling her eyes.

Dominic didn't run out of the room to save himself. He didn't call his security team to sacrifice themselves.

The most powerful, untouchable billionaire in the city slowly, carefully dropped to his knees directly onto the rigged marble floor, positioning himself entirely within the lethal blast radius right in front of the young maid.

"Dominic, no!" Claire wept softly, terrified that any sudden movement would kill them both. "Get back! You're going to die!"

"I'm not leaving you," Dominic replied firmly, his dark eyes radiating a fierce, unbreakable resolve.

He slowly reached into his charcoal suit jacket and pulled out a small, specialized multi-tool. With surgical precision, he carefully wedged his fingers under the loose edge of the marble tile, exposing the complex, glowing red wires of the explosive pressure plate beneath her knees.

👉 Dominic worked frantically to disarm the bomb, knowing he only had a few seconds before the rival cartel triggered it remotely.
