Dominic hadn't just hired her randomly. He had spent the last two decades meticulously protecting her from afar, anonymously funding her education, securing her housing, and finally hiring her to work in his heavily guarded estate just to ensure she was safe from the rival cartels who killed her mother.
"I swore to her I would never let anything happen to you," Dominic stated fiercely, his dark eyes flashing with lethal danger as he looked back down at the bomb.
Suddenly, the heavy double doors of the study swung open again.
Marcus, the traitorous Head of Security, walked into the room holding a silenced pistol. He expected to see Dominic blown to pieces. When he saw the boss kneeling on the floor, actively disarming the explosive, his face violently twisted with toxic panic.
"I can't let you disarm that, Boss," Marcus sneered, raising the heavy weapon and aiming it directly at Claire's head. "The Marcone family is paying me ten million dollars to make sure you die today. And if you don't step off that plate, I'll shoot the maid myself."
Claire let out a horrific, high-pitched gasp of pure terror.
