Chapter 9 - The Billionaire's Vow

The toxic, dangerous energy was entirely dragged out of the grand American luxury mansion.

That evening, the estate was plunged back into a profound, heavy peace. Claire sat on the edge of the massive luxury bed in the master suite. She wasn't wearing her black and white maid uniform anymore. She was wearing a stunning, elegant silk dress that Dominic had explicitly ordered for her.

Dominic walked into the room, his shoulder neatly bandaged under a fresh black shirt. He walked slowly over to her, holding the faded photograph of her mother.

He gently placed the photo into Claire's hands.

"I am so incredibly sorry I lied to you," Dominic whispered softly, dropping to one knee in front of her. "I thought keeping you as a maid would keep you invisible. I thought it would keep you safe. But I was wrong."

Claire didn't cry. She looked at the incredibly powerful, terrifying man who had literally thrown his body over a bomb to save her.

"You aren't a monster, Dominic," Claire replied quietly, her voice radiating absolute, undeniable strength. "You're the only person who has ever truly protected me."

Dominic’s dark eyes softened completely. The heavy, suffocating guilt he had carried for twenty years was finally, beautifully lifted from his chest. He reached out and gently took her hand, pressing a soft, respectful kiss to her knuckles.
