Chapter 9 - The Excommunication

"Strip her," Vincent ordered without a shred of hesitation.
Sophia screamed as the guards moved forward, but Vincent clarified his brutal command.
"Take the keys to the penthouse. Take the keys to the Mercedes. Seize all the bank accounts I funded," Vincent stated, his voice ringing with absolute, crushing finality. "Take her designer coat, her jewelry, and her phone. Everything she is wearing that was bought with my money stays in this room."
"You can't leave me with nothing!" Sophia sobbed hysterically as the guards ripped the expensive trench coat from her shoulders and snatched the luxury handbag from her grip. "I'll be on the streets!"
"You came into my life with nothing," Vincent replied, his blue-gray eyes completely devoid of mercy. "And you are leaving with exactly that. If I ever see your face in Chicago again, or if you ever breathe a single word about my family, my men will put you in a concrete foundation."
The guards literally dragged a kicking, screaming Sophia out of the study and through the grand foyer. She was thrown out of the front gates of the estate into the freezing, pouring rain wearing nothing but a cheap underlying slip, entirely stripped of her power, her wealth, and her dignity.
Vincent didn't even watch her go. He turned back to the mahogany desk, gently picking up Claire’s diamond wedding ring. He slipped it safely into his pocket.
He had purged the poison from his life. Now, he had to do the hardest thing he had ever done in his forty years on earth. He had to face the woman he had broken, and beg for the one thing he didn't deserve.
