Chapter 2 - The Ghost in Economy

The cinematic tension in the narrow airplane aisle was absolutely suffocating.
Damon remained frozen, breathless and paralyzed. He stared down at the three-year-old boy, the apocalyptic realization hitting him with the kinetic force of a freight train. He didn't just have his eyes and his dimple. The child was the exact, undeniable mirror image of Damon when he was a boy.
He slowly raised his dark, shaking eyes to Cassandra.
Four years ago, Cassandra hadn't been an exhausted mother flying economy. She had been the absolute love of his life. She was the brilliant, beautiful woman who made the ruthless mafia boss want to burn his violent empire to the ground and start over. But one night, she simply vanished without a trace. No note. No warning.
She had taken his heart, and he had spent millions trying to find her, entirely unaware she had taken his children too.
Cassandra pulled the twins tighter against her chest, physically trying to shield them from the most dangerous man in Chicago. Her eyes rapidly filled with hot, panicked tears as she faced the monster she had successfully hidden from for four years.
"Mama?" Luke asked again, tugging gently on her sleeve. "Do you know him?"
Cassandra looked at Damon, her chest heaving with sheer terror.
"I used to," Cassandra whispered, her voice incredibly shaky.
Damon’s powerful, untouchable demeanor completely shattered. The executioner vanished, violently replaced by a broken, grieving father. He leaned down, gripping the back of the seat, his face inches from hers.
