Chapter 4 - The Descent into Hell

The plane leveled out, and the seatbelt sign chimed.

The captain’s voice crackled over the intercom, announcing their final descent into Chicago.

Damon slowly stood up to his full, towering height. His dark eyes were pitch black, entirely stripped of their humanity. The broken father completely vanished, violently replaced by the ruthless apex predator of the underworld.

"Where is your luggage?" Damon asked, his voice returning to a cold, absolute authority.

"Damon, please," Cassandra panicked, grabbing the children's hands. "We have a connecting flight. We're not staying in Chicago."

"You're not taking another flight," Damon commanded softly, leaning down to look directly into her eyes. "Silas is waiting on the tarmac with my security detail. If you walk out of this airport alone, his men will flag your passport. You will be dead before you reach the taxi stand."

Cassandra’s breath hitched. She realized she had accidentally booked a connection right through the absolute center of his empire.

Damon reached out and gently touched little Luke’s sandy-brown hair. The boy didn't flinch.

"I lost four years with my children because my brother is a greedy coward," Damon whispered, a dark, demonic promise vibrating in his deep voice. "I am going to walk you off this plane. You stay directly behind me. I will handle Silas."

He turned his back on them and walked purposefully toward the front of the plane.
