Chapter 5 - The Tarmac Ambush

The heavy commercial airplane doors swung open.
Damon stepped out onto the private tarmac. Standing exactly thirty feet away was Silas, wearing a sharp grey suit, surrounded by ten heavily armed, supposedly loyal syndicate guards.
"Damon!" Silas smiled brightly, stepping forward with his arms open wide. "Welcome back, brother! The European merger was flawless. The city is yours."
Damon didn't smile. He walked slowly down the metal stairs, his face a mask of cold, unyielding stone.
"Is the convoy ready?" Damon asked smoothly.
"Of course," Silas nodded, gesturing to the three armored black SUVs idling nearby.
"Good," Damon replied. He stopped directly in front of his brother. "Because I brought some unexpected cargo."
Damon turned slightly. Stepping slowly out of the airplane, terrified but holding her head high, was Cassandra. She was holding little Luke and Violet tightly by the hands.
Silas physically staggered backward. The arrogant, victorious smile completely evaporated from his face. All the color violently drained from his cheeks as he stared at the woman who was supposed to be a ghost.
Then, Silas looked at the three-year-old boy holding her hand. He saw the exact green eyes and the dimple. He realized the absolute, horrifying truth.
"Cassandra..." Silas choked out, sheer, unadulterated panic hijacking his nervous system.

"She told me everything, Silas," Damon whispered, his voice dropping into a lethal, vibrating register.
👉 Silas panicked and reached for his weapon, completely unaware that he had just walked into his own execution.
