Chapter 4 - The Monster Arrives

A heavy, suffocating silence fell over the mansion. The rhythmic, commanding click of expensive leather shoes echoed from the arched hallway.

Damian Voss stepped into the bright morning light of the living room.

He was a tall, imposing man in his early thirties. He wore a sharp, perfectly tailored black suit, though his crisp white dress shirt was unbuttoned at the collar, revealing the dark, intricate ink of Russian syndicate tattoos etched across his chest. He was the undisputed king of the city’s criminal underworld, a man whose mere presence usually forced people to lower their eyes in absolute terror.

Damian froze just a few feet inside the doorway. His sharp, predatory eyes swept over the scene. He saw Vanessa, standing tall and haughty in her maroon robe. He saw the puddle of expensive champagne on his floor. And then, his eyes locked onto the woman kneeling on the ground in the maid's uniform, shielding a crying child.

Vanessa’s face immediately lit up. Her arrogant smirk transformed into a sickeningly sweet, victorious smile. She confidently strutted over to Damian, hooking her manicured hand around his muscular arm.

"Damian, darling," Vanessa purred, leaning her head against his shoulder. "Your staff has gotten completely out of control while you were dealing with business."

But Damian didn’t look at Vanessa. He didn't acknowledge her touch. He stood completely paralyzed, his intense dark eyes locked entirely on the back of Evelyn’s head.

Evelyn slowly turned her head, looking over her shoulder. Her expression was completely devoid of fear. There was no submission in her eyes. Only a cold, calculating, and deeply lethal warning.

👉 Vanessa thought Damian was her ultimate weapon, but she didn’t notice the terror rising in his eyes.
