Chapter 4 - The Massive Lie

"You told her you bought this house?" Robert whispered coldly, staring down at his terrified son.
Vanessa frantically looked back and forth between her husband and her father-in-law. "Daniel, what is he talking about? Of course we bought this house! We signed the mortgage papers!"
Robert let out a harsh, cruel laugh that echoed flawlessly across the dead-silent dining room.
"You didn't sign a mortgage, Vanessa," Robert explained, ensuring the twenty elite corporate guests heard every single devastating word. "You signed a highly restricted residential lease agreement. Daniel didn't have the two million dollars required for the down payment. He came to my office and begged me on his hands and knees to purchase the estate through my private holding company so you wouldn't leave him."
Vanessa’s jaw literally unhinged. The crushing magnitude of the revelation hit her with the physical force of a freight train.
"Your husband isn't a wealthy corporate titan," Robert continued flawlessly, completely dismantling her high-society identity. "He is a mid-level manager who is absolutely drowning in credit card debt just to fund your ridiculous designer dresses and pearl necklaces."
The entire dining room was completely paralyzed. The wealthy guests gasped in absolute shock, immediately realizing the arrogant hostess was completely broke and living a massive, pathetic lie.
"You lied to me?!" Vanessa roared aggressively, aggressively shoving Daniel’s shoulder. "You told me you owned the holding company!"
