Chapter 6 - The Traitor's Celebration

While Maya and little Lily slept safely in the warm, plush beds of the penthouse, a very different scene was unfolding ten floors below in the corporate executive boardroom.
Sarah, an elegant, arrogant woman in her thirties, sat at the head of a massive mahogany table. She wore a sharp white designer suit, sipping expensive champagne as she smiled viciously at the syndicate’s top lawyers.
"It is a tragedy, of course," Sarah sighed, pressing a perfectly dry silk handkerchief to her eyes in a fake display of grief. "Losing my sister and my niece in that horrific crash. But Dante is entirely broken. He needs me to step in and assume control of the estate holding companies."
The lawyers nodded sympathetically, sliding a thick stack of legal transfer documents across the polished table. All Sarah had to do was sign on the dotted line, and she would legally control half of the Moretti empire.
She picked up a gold fountain pen, a greedy, victorious smirk playing on her lips. She had pulled off the perfect crime. The orphan was likely frozen to death in an alley by now, and the billionaire was drowning in his own depression.
