Chapter 2 - The Innocent Request

The cinematic tension in the grand corridor spiked to an apocalyptic level.

Dominic stopped abruptly. His cinematic expression hardened into a cold, terrifying stare. The armed guards immediately tensed up, waiting for the boss to roar in anger and order them to throw the mother and child out into the freezing street.

Dominic towered over the three-year-old, his broad shoulders physically blocking the light from the chandeliers. The air in the hallway felt suffocatingly heavy. Claire remained frozen against the wall, tears of pure terror welling in her eyes, silently praying the monster wouldn't hurt her baby.

Sophie didn't scream. She didn't cower or run away.

A tight, cinematic close-up captured Sophie’s face. She looked straight up at the terrifying giant with completely clear, wide, innocent brown eyes. In a house filled with criminals, bodyguards, and killers, she saw absolutely no monster.

She hugged her stuffed rabbit tighter beneath one arm and bravely lifted her other small arm directly toward the terrifying mafia boss.

"Can you hug me for five minutes?" Sophie asked sweetly, her tiny voice echoing softly against the cold marble walls.
