Chapter 7 - The Runaway's Truth

"Nothing has changed!" Claire cried, refusing to be manipulated. "You're still the boss! You still have guards with guns walking through the halls! If anyone finds out she is your daughter, she becomes a target for the rest of her life!"

"No, she doesn't," Dominic corrected smoothly, his voice dropping into a lethal, cinematic calm.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a thick, encrypted digital ledger. He tossed it onto the mahogany desk.

"Four years ago, we were ambushed at that restaurant," Dominic explained, stepping closer to her. "You thought it was a rival cartel aiming for me. But a month ago, I finally decrypted this ledger and uncovered the massive, horrific conspiracy behind that night."

Claire gasped, her eyes widening in absolute horror.

"It wasn't a rival cartel," Dominic stated, his eyes turning pitch black. "It was Marcus. My underboss. My best friend. He orchestrated the ambush to assassinate me so he could take over the Chicago syndicate. And when you disappeared in the chaos, he was the one who provided the fake police reports convincing me that you were dead."
