Chapter 9 - The Absolute Surrender
Dominic looked at the woman he had never stopped loving. The cinematic realism of his absolute surrender was breathtaking.
The towering, undefeated mafia boss slowly dropped to his knees right in front of Claire. He completely abandoned his arrogant, terrifying persona. He didn't care about his pride or his power.
"I can't undo the last four years," Dominic whispered, tears spilling down his tattooed face. "I can't change the fact that you were terrified, pregnant, and completely alone. But I swear on my life, if you stay, neither of you will ever have to hide again."
Claire stared at the broken man on the floor.
"And if I say no?" Claire asked, her voice trembling. "If I say I want to leave Chicago tonight?"
Dominic closed his eyes, accepting his punishment.
"Then I will fund your new life," Dominic replied smoothly. "I will give you fifty million dollars, a new identity, and absolute freedom. I will never look for you again. I just want my daughter to be safe."
