Chapter 1 - The Glass of Water

The grand luxury event hall was absolutely breathtaking, illuminated by glowing crystal chandeliers. String musicians played softly in the background as formally dressed guests mingled around elegant tables draped in pristine white tablecloths and expensive champagne.

But the atmosphere near the center table was violently tense.

Nora, a twenty-two-year-old waitress with her brown hair pulled back, wearing a white collared shirt under a black uniform vest, was holding a small silver tray with a single glass of water. She was trying to serve an eighty-year-old woman with short grey hair, who sat quietly in a wheelchair wearing a white shawl over a black dress.

Suddenly, the blonde woman standing next to the wheelchair aggressively grabbed Nora’s arm, her perfectly manicured nails digging into the waitress's skin.

The blonde woman was in her late forties, wearing a sparkling silver sequin evening gown and blinding diamond jewelry. She was the elderly woman's daughter-in-law, and she was furious.

"Get away from me, you worthless little server," the blonde woman hissed angrily, her harsh voice cutting through the elegant music.

Nora didn't drop the tray. She didn't cower. She looked at the woman’s hand on her arm with absolute, freezing calm.

The blonde woman tightened her grip, glaring threateningly at Nora, her face twisting with toxic, unearned superiority.

"You just ended your career," the blonde woman threatened coldly, fully expecting the young waitress to burst into tears and beg for her job.

👉 Nora didn't beg, but her calm, compassionate response was about to trigger an absolute explosion from the arrogant socialite.
