Chapter 8 - The Ultimate Reward

The chaotic, violent energy completely evaporated from the luxury event hall.

The remaining guests whispered in awe as the police cruisers outside sped away with the screaming socialite. The string musicians slowly resumed playing, trying to restore the elegant atmosphere.

Nora was standing quietly near the table, holding her empty silver tray. She was still processing the absolute insanity of the last ten minutes. She expected to simply go back to the kitchen and finish her shift.

Mrs. Sterling turned her wheelchair slightly, looking directly at the young, brave woman in the black uniform vest.

"Nora," Mrs. Sterling called softly.

Nora stepped forward, her dark eyes still completely respectful. "Yes, ma'am? Do you need more water?"

Mrs. Sterling smiled. It was a genuine, profoundly warm smile that reached her tired grey eyes.

"You stood between a billionaire and a defenseless old woman," Mrs. Sterling whispered, her voice filled with overwhelming respect and awe. "You knew she could ruin your life, and you didn't even blink. You broke that glass to save me."

Nora swallowed hard, looking down at her tray. "I just didn't want you to get hurt, ma'am."

"I am the sole owner of this entire hotel and event franchise, Nora," Mrs. Sterling stated quietly.

Nora gasped, looking up in absolute shock.

"You are no longer a server," Mrs. Sterling vowed, the absolute power of her massive wealth backing every single syllable. "I am elevating you to the Director of Guest Operations for the entire East Coast division. I am quadrupling your salary, and I am personally paying for your college tuition. You will never have to take an insult from an arrogant guest ever again."

Tears of pure, unadulterated joy finally spilled down Nora’s cheeks. She dropped to her knees, gently hugging the elderly matriarch.

The dark shadows of cruelty and greed were permanently banished from the empire, replaced by a legacy built on absolute bravery, undeniable compassion, and perfect justice.

If you were Nora, would you have accepted the massive promotion, or would you have simply taken a large cash reward and walked away to start your own business?
