Chapter 6 - The Undercover Agent

Victoria panicked. Driven by pure, animalistic desperation, she reached for her diamond clutch, entirely intending to bolt for the grand double doors of the event hall.
"Don't move," a deep, commanding voice echoed right beside her.
It wasn't Nora. It was the polite Asian man in the black suit.
He didn't have a silver tray anymore. He was holding a sleek, heavy FBI badge, flashing it directly in Victoria’s horrified face.
"Special Agent Chen, Federal Bureau of Investigation," the man announced, his polite smile completely vanishing, replaced by the terrifying, cold authority of a federal agent. "Victoria Vance, you are under arrest for the attempted murder of Eleanor Sterling."
Victoria’s jaw physically dropped. The cinematic realism of her absolute, unadulterated terror was breathtaking.
"The FBI?!" Victoria wailed hysterically, her silver sequin gown shaking violently. "This is a private charity gala! You can't be here!"
"Mrs. Sterling contacted our financial crimes division three weeks ago," Agent Chen explained smoothly, entirely immune to her panic. "She suspected you and your husband were embezzling from the family trust. I have been posing as her private security detail all evening. And I secured the shattered pieces of the champagne glass you poisoned ten minutes ago. The lab will have a field day with the residue."
Victoria let out a horrific, high-pitched shriek of pure agony.
She lunged forward, trying to slap the FBI badge out of his hand.

Agent Chen moved with blinding, flawless tactical speed. He grabbed Victoria’s wrist, twisted it sharply behind her back, and slammed her face-first onto the elegant white tablecloth, completely shattering a centerpiece of white roses.
👉 Victoria was pinned to the table, but the financial ruin crashing down on her was far worse than the handcuffs.
