Chapter 5 - The Disappointment

Back in the present moment, the cinematic tension peaked.

Mrs. Sterling finished her glass of water. She slowly lowered the glass, placing it onto the silver tray held by the polite Asian man. She didn't look confused. She didn't look senile.

A tight close-up captured the eighty-year-old matriarch looking directly up at Victoria with a profound, heavy look of absolute disappointment.

The camera lingered on Victoria’s face. The arrogant, toxic socialite visibly, involuntarily flinched under the weight of the old woman's stare.

"Your conduct disappointed me, Victoria," Mrs. Sterling stated. Her tone was cold, dignified, and entirely devoid of any motherly warmth.

Victoria nervously adjusted her diamond necklace, trying to laugh it off. "Oh, Mother, please. Don't be dramatic. She's just a waitress. You know how I get when the service is terrible."

"You weren't angry about the service," Mrs. Sterling replied smoothly, her grey eyes turning to pitch black ice. "You were angry because she broke the glass of champagne you poisoned."

All the color violently drained from Victoria’s perfectly contoured face. She physically staggered backward, her high heels scraping against the hardwood floor.

"I... I don't know what you're talking about!" Victoria shrieked, completely abandoning her elegant facade. The wealthy guests at the surrounding tables immediately went dead silent, staring at the unfolding drama.

"I saw you drop the pill, Victoria," Mrs. Sterling whispered, her voice carrying absolute doom. "I saw it in the reflection of the silver serving platter on the table."

👉 Victoria frantically looked around for an escape, entirely blind to the trap the polite Asian man had already sprung.
