Chapter 9 - The Hidden Camera

"I gave you the absolute benefit of the doubt," Michael said, his voice dropping into a cold, terrifying, and intensely lethal register as he pulled his smartphone from his pocket. "But my daughter started flinching every time I mentioned your name. She started losing weight. You told me she was just grieving. You told me she was acting out."

Evelyn swallowed hard, her face draining of all color. "She is acting out! She's a brat—"

"I installed a hidden camera in the kitchen and the dining room three weeks ago," Michael interrupted, dropping the absolute, devastating truth like a tactical explosive into the middle of the ruined room.

Evelyn completely stopped breathing.

"I've seen every single thing you've done to her," Michael stated, his dark eyes burning with absolute, unforgiving disgust. "I've watched you scream at her. I flew home early today specifically to throw you out of my house."

Evelyn dropped entirely to her knees in the middle of the spilled food and shattered crystal, completely ruining her expensive burgundy silk dress, sobbing wildly as she realized her entire life of unearned luxury was permanently over.

"Michael, please! I'm sorry! I'll change! I'll be a better mother!" Evelyn begged hysterically.

"You have exactly five minutes to pack a single bag and get out of my house before I call the police and have you arrested for child endangerment. My lawyers will completely strip you of everything you own by tomorrow morning."
