Chapter 1 - The Freezing Terrace

The private Bellacorte mafia mountain lodge in Colorado was an architectural masterpiece of luxury and power. Inside the massive entrance hall, a roaring fire crackled in a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace. The room was decorated for a lavish birthday celebration, featuring heavy wooden coat racks, towering stacks of expensive birthday gifts, a massive wooden wine trolley, decorative winter sleds, and a long, elegant gift-wrapping table covered in velvet ribbons and shiny paper.

Dozens of elite family guests and heavy-set bodyguards mingled in the warmth of the lodge, drinking expensive bourbon and laughing loudly.

But near the heavy glass terrace doors at the back of the hall, a scene of breathtaking, sickening cruelty was unfolding entirely unnoticed by the drinking crowd.

Claudia Bellacorte, a thirty-six-year-old woman wearing a stunning, elegant winter dress, glittering diamond jewelry, and sharp heels, grabbed a tiny, fragile arm. With a vicious, entirely unhinged motion, Claudia violently shoved a three-year-old boy named Noah directly through the open terrace doors.

The little boy stumbled and fell hard onto the freezing, snow-covered stone patio. Noah was shockingly small, wearing torn, incredibly filthy clothes that barely hung on his tiny frame. He was completely barefoot, his little toes instantly turning red as they hit the sub-zero Colorado snow.

In his small, trembling hands, he had been holding a tiny, rough handmade wooden airplane, carefully wrapped with a simple red ribbon.

Claudia snatched the toy from the ground and violently threw his handmade wooden airplane out into the snowbank after him.
