Chapter 3 - The Arrival

Outside the massive wrought-iron gates of the Colorado mountain lodge, the deafening roar of heavy engines shattered the quiet winter night.
Richard’s massive, heavily armored security convoy pulled into the circular driveway, the black SUVs cutting through the deep snow with aggressive precision. The elite bodyguards stationed inside the lodge immediately snapped to attention, silencing the lively crowd of wealthy guests as they prepared to welcome the undisputed head of the family.
The heavy front doors of the lodge swung open.
Richard Bellacorte stepped inside, bringing the freezing mountain air with him. His presence was incredibly imposing, dominating the massive entrance hall before he even spoke a single word. He swept his intense, highly observant eyes across the room, taking in the roaring fireplace, the stacked birthday gifts, and the nervous, respectful faces of his son's associates.
But his sharp veteran instincts instantly detected something terribly wrong.
He felt a bitter, freezing draft cutting through the warm lodge. His eyes bypassed the cheering crowd and locked onto the heavy glass terrace doors at the far end of the hall, which had been left wide open to the brutal Colorado winter.
Richard stepped past the crowd, his tailored dark three-piece suit moving with silent, predatory grace. As he approached the terrace, his heart completely stopped beating in his chest.
There, shivering violently on the freezing stone patio, was a tiny, incredibly fragile figure.
Richard spotted three-year-old Noah trembling outside in the snow. The boy was wearing torn, filthy rags, his little lips turning blue, his bare feet sinking into the freezing frost.
