Chapter 3 - The Sealed Envelope

Arthur led Mia away from the freezing entryway and directly into the grand, luxurious living room. The glowing, golden light of the massive stone fireplace instantly began to warm the little girl's trembling body.

He didn't ask her a million frantic questions. He moved with a subtle, cinematic calm, assessing the situation with the precision of a seasoned CEO. He grabbed a thick, heated cashmere blanket from the sofa and gently draped it over Mia’s soaking wet, torn beige coat.

"Sit by the fire," Arthur commanded softly, pointing to the plush leather armchair.

Mia obeyed silently. She sat down and carefully placed the crying newborn onto her lap.

Arthur crouched down right in front of her, his dark gray suit brushing against the expensive Persian rug. He needed to check the infant's condition. With slow, highly deliberate movements, Arthur gently reached out and carefully unwrapped the top folds of the clean blue blanket.

The newborn was perfectly healthy, warm, and unharmed. But as Arthur pulled the fabric back, something caught the dim, flickering light of the fireplace.

Tucked deeply inside the inner folds of the blue blanket, resting directly against the baby’s chest, was a thick, pristine white envelope.

Arthur’s eyes narrowed. The envelope was sealed with a heavy layer of dark red wax, and it bore no return address. It looked entirely out of place wrapped around a newborn in the middle of a violent thunderstorm.

He slowly reached out and pulled the envelope from the blanket. It was thick, heavy, and completely dry.

Arthur didn't open it immediately. He looked at Mia, silently demanding an explanation with his intense, piercing gaze. The little girl simply nodded toward the paper, her eyes filled with a desperate, knowing urgency.

👉 Arthur looked down at the baby, entirely unprepared for the impossible, genetic miracle he was about to witness.
