Chapter 8 - The Grieving Widow Act

Arthur carried the newborn and led Mia down the hidden hallway behind his private study. He unlocked the biometric security door to his reinforced, titanium-lined panic room. It was warm, stocked with supplies, and completely impenetrable.

"Stay here," Arthur promised Mia, kissing her wet forehead. "Nobody can hurt you in this room. I am going to end this."

He locked the heavy steel door behind them.

Arthur slowly walked back into the main foyer and began to ascend the grand, sweeping marble staircase. His footsteps were entirely silent. He didn't rush. He moved with the cold, calculating precision of a billionaire about to dismantle an empire.

He pushed open the heavy mahogany doors of the master suite.

The room was bathed in soft, expensive amber light. Valerie was sitting on the edge of the massive king-sized bed. She was wearing a luxurious white silk nightgown, holding a small, empty crib blanket against her chest. She was weeping softly, perfectly playing the role of a traumatized, heartbroken mother mourning her stillborn child.

She looked up as Arthur entered, wiping away a fake tear with a trembling, manicured finger.

"Arthur, darling," Valerie sniffled, her voice dripping with calculated, manipulative sorrow. "I couldn't sleep. The pain is just too much. I keep looking at the empty nursery."

Arthur stopped at the foot of the bed. He maintained a perfectly cold, restrained cinematic composure. He didn't even blink.

"I know, Valerie," Arthur replied smoothly, his deep voice carrying a terrifying, unreadable calmness. "The loss of a child is an unimaginable tragedy."

👉 Valerie smiled sadly, completely unaware that Arthur was about to drop the absolute instrument of her destruction onto her lap.
