With complete, fearless cinematic realism, the little girl tilted her head slightly. She didn't reach out to pet the dog. Instead, she opened her mouth and began to hum.
It wasn't a random, childish tune. It was a very specific, slow, hauntingly beautiful melody. The low, rhythmic notes echoed softly off the dark cedar wood panels of the study.
The reaction was instantaneous.
Atlas didn't just stop growling; the giant red-brown mastiff completely froze mid-snarl. The aggressive, lethal tension instantly vanished from the animal's massive frame, replaced by profound, utter confusion. The dog’s ears twitched, recognizing the exact pitch and rhythm of the song.
Mara stood pinned against the wall in the hallway, her jaw dropping in absolute disbelief. She had never heard her daughter hum that song before.
