Damen slowly turned around, adjusting his dark suit jacket. The lethal, terrifying aura completely vanished as he looked down at Ellie.

The six-year-old was still kneeling on the rug, her floral dress perfectly unbothered, completely calm. Mara, finally released by the loyal guards, sprinted into the room, falling to her knees and hugging her daughter desperately, sobbing with pure relief.

Damen walked over and knelt down on the expensive rug, bringing himself perfectly level with the child.

"How did you know that song, little one?" Damen asked softly, his voice thick with profound, genuine curiosity and gratitude.

Ellie smiled, her innocent eyes looking directly at the powerful boss. "I hear you hum it sometimes when my mommy cleans the hallway outside your door. You sounded sad. So I learned it to make the big doggy feel better."

Damen let out a slow, heavy breath. The sheer innocence of the child had saved him from a permanent grave. She had unknowingly weaponized his own private grief to calm his most dangerous protector.
