Chapter 4 - The Beast Submits

Ellie didn't stop humming. She took another slow, deliberate step forward, entirely invading the giant dog's personal space.
She knelt gracefully on the expensive Persian rug right next to Damen’s unconscious body. The massive mastiff towered over her, its heavy breathing ruffling her pigtails. Slowly, Ellie reached her tiny hand out.
Atlas didn't bite. The terrifying beast immediately submitted. It let out a soft, high-pitched whimper and lowered its massive head, resting its heavy snout gently against the little girl's knee.
Ellie stopped humming, gently stroking the thick red-brown fur on the top of the dog's head.
"Is he sleeping?" Ellie asked softly, her innocent voice ringing clearly through the dead silence of the study as she looked down at the pale, unconscious mafia boss.
The armed guards and Mara stood in completely stunned silence at the child's absolute power over the beast.
But the silence was shattered by a cruel, arrogant laugh from the hallway.
"Well, well. It seems the mutt finally found someone his own size to play with," a harsh voice sneered.

Stepping into the study was Julian, Damen’s younger brother and the syndicate’s underboss. He wore a sharp grey suit, a victorious smirk plastered across his face. He was the one who had poisoned the drink.
👉 Julian thought he had won the empire, but he was completely unaware of the subtle reaction happening on the rug.
