Chapter 10 - The Pink Dress

The chaotic, violent energy of the betrayal completely evaporated from the luxury ballroom.

Dante bypassed the mayors, the investors, and the billionaires. He walked directly through the swinging doors into the massive catering kitchen.

Standing in the corner, holding onto her mother’s uniform apron, was tiny Sophie. The five-year-old girl in the frilly pink dress looked up, her brown eyes still wide with lingering fear, clutching her plush bunny.

Dante didn't approach her with his towering height. Once again, the terrifying apex predator of the city dropped immediately to his knees on the hard tile floor.

"You are the bravest person I have ever met, Sophie," Dante whispered, his deep voice thick with genuine, profound respect.

He gently reached out and patted her shoulder. "Because of you, a lot of people get to go home to their families tonight."

Dante stood back up, looking at Rosa, the exhausted, terrified mother. The power of his massive wealth radiated in his next words.

"Rosa, you are no longer a maid in this building," Dante stated, his voice carrying absolute, unquestionable authority. "As of tonight, you are the Head of Estate Operations. Your salary is quintupled, and you answer to absolutely no one but me."

Rosa gasped softly, covering her mouth as tears of pure, unadulterated joy filled her eyes.

"And Sophie," Dante smiled warmly. "Your college tuition is fully funded. Whatever you want to be, the syndicate will pay for it. You will never have to hide under a table again."

Sophie finally smiled, a bright, beautiful grin, and hugged Dante’s massive leg.

The empire was secure, the traitor was delivered to his doom, and the fearless little girl in the pink dress had finally received the beautiful future she deserved.

If you were Dante, would you have handed Marcus over to the rival cartel, or was blowing him up with his own bomb the ultimate, perfect justice?
