Chapter 4 - The Chilling Quote

A tight, cinematic close-up focused entirely on Dante’s face as he knelt in front of the little girl.

"Did you see him do it?" Dante asked, his jaw tightening with a sudden, dangerous fury that he struggled to keep hidden from the child.

Sophie nodded slowly. She clutched her stuffed bunny tighter to her chest, her massive brown eyes welling with tears. She had been hiding under the table, holding her breath while the scary man in the suit messed with the red ribbon.

"He pushed the silver string inside," Sophie whispered, her voice shaking. And then, she repeated the exact, chilling words the traitor had muttered to himself in the empty room. "He said everything ends tonight."

The ultimate realization of betrayal violently washed over Dante’s face.

The man who had stood at his wedding, the man who was the godfather to his nephews, had just tried to blow him into a million pieces for a paycheck. The agonizing heartbreak in Dante's dark eyes instantly vanished, completely replaced by a cold, apocalyptic, and demonic rage.

But Dante didn't let the monster out yet. Not in front of the little girl in the pink dress.

He reached out and gently patted her head, offering her a rare, reassuring smile.

"You did a very brave thing, Sophie," Dante whispered smoothly. "Go find your mama now."
