Chapter 2 - The Innocent Warning

The collective gasp from the two hundred high-society guests sucked all the oxygen completely out of the ballroom.
In Dante’s ruthless, violent world, nobody ever interrupted the boss. His massive security guards immediately reached inside their tailored suits, waiting for a single nod from Dante to drag the child away.
But Dante didn't nod. He didn't yell. He didn't even flinch.
His realistic facial micro-expressions remained completely devoid of anger. The cinematic realism of his absolute, unbreakable calm paralyzed the entire room. He slowly stepped away from the marble table and looked down at the terrified five-year-old girl standing bravely in front of him.
With incredibly slow, deliberate movements, the towering apex predator knelt directly onto the hard marble floor, bringing himself perfectly down to her eye level.
He completely ignored the stunned, breathless silence of his guests.
Sophie stepped closer. Her tiny hands were trembling violently against her plush bunny. She was terrified of the dark men surrounding them, but she had to warn him.
"Tell me why I shouldn't," Dante asked softly. His voice wasn't harsh or frightening. It was gentle, incredibly controlled, and radiated a strange, protective warmth.
Sophie looked up at him with frightened, wide eyes. She leaned in, her voice dropping into a frantic, desperate whisper.

"Please, Uncle Dante, don't touch it," Sophie pleaded. "Uncle Marcus put something silver inside."
👉 Dante’s heart stopped, because the little girl had just named his most trusted brother as a cold-blooded killer.
