Chapter 2 - The Innocent Accusation

The cinematic tension in the grand office spiked to a paralyzing level.

Elena violently yanked her tweed sleeve down, her hands shaking uncontrollably. She physically backed away from the towering mafia boss, stepping between him and the leather chair, shielding little Mia with her own body. Elena glanced frantically around the room, acting as if the walls themselves were listening.

"It's nothing, Mr. Moretti," Elena whispered, her voice trembling with absolute terror. "I slipped. I just slipped."

Luca didn't move. His sharp jawline locked. He had spent his entire life reading people, and he knew instantly that Elena was lying. The bruises on her arm weren't from a fall; they were distinctly shaped like the massive, crushing grip of a man's hand.

Before Luca could press her further, a tiny, clear voice broke the suffocating silence.

"Mommy didn't slip," Mia stated innocently.

Luca and Elena both froze, looking at the little girl still sitting comfortably in the massive leather chair.

Mia shook her head, her curly brown hair bouncing. She raised a tiny hand and pointed a small finger directly toward the heavy, closed office door.
