Chapter 5 - The Faded Photograph

Mia squirmed slightly in her mother's tight, protective grip. She reached deep into the tiny pocket of her frilly yellow dress.
She pulled out a faded, old, crinkled photograph and held it out toward Luca.
Luca took the photograph with trembling, tattooed hands. He looked down at the image.
It was a picture of a younger Elena, smiling brilliantly and visibly pregnant, standing with her arm wrapped around a handsome man. The man in the photograph was Matteo.
Luca stared at the picture, the profound, apocalyptic realization crashing over him like a freight train. Elena wasn't just a random guest in his house. She was his beloved brother's widow. And the fearless little girl in the yellow dress was his own blood niece.
The heavy oak door swung fully open, and Daniel confidently stepped into the grand office.

Daniel was forty-five, wearing a sharp, expensive grey suit. He was the man who had supposedly stood by Luca’s side through the agonizing grief of losing Matteo.
👉 Daniel smiled arrogantly, completely unaware that he had just walked into his own execution chamber.
