Chapter 2 - The Flour and the Fear

The bright, natural sunlight pouring through the massive kitchen windows was a sharp contrast to the dark, lethal energy Mr. Romano carried into the room.
He stopped in the doorway, his chest heaving with restrained emotion.
Gathered around the massive, dark kitchen island were his three little girls. They were breathtakingly innocent, their light brown hair bouncing as they played in their matching floral dresses. The dark countertop was completely covered in a chaotic, messy cloud of white baking flour.
Standing with them was Clara, the new maid. She was a woman in her early thirties, her hair pulled back into a severe, neat bun, wearing a pristine grey dress with a white collar and a white apron. She was gently guiding the girls' hands into a large silver mixing bowl.
And right in the center of the flour-covered island, the youngest, five-year-old Lily, was swaying back and forth.
"Grey Wednesdays are gray..." Lily sang in her sweet, angelic voice, her tiny hands patting the flour. "...the shark swims in the dark."
Mr. Romano’s grip on his black briefcase loosened. The heavy leather bag slipped from his fingers, hitting the marble floor with a loud, resounding thud.
The sound shattered the peaceful atmosphere.
Clara jumped, spinning around violently. Her realistic facial micro-expressions shifted from relaxed warmth to immediate, tense surprise as she noticed the terrifying mafia boss standing in the doorway.

"Mr. Romano," Clara gasped, hastily wiping her flour-covered hands on her white apron. "You're... you're home early. I didn't hear the gates open."
👉 The maid thought she was in trouble for making a mess, but the mafia boss only cared about the terrifying lyrics leaving his daughter's lips.
