Chapter 6 - The Hidden Evidence

Emily took a slow, deep breath, her eyes welling with heavy, painful tears.

"I didn't disappear, Mr. Vance," Emily replied, her voice breaking the heavy silence of the ballroom. "I was an EMT in training. I stabilized his neck. But when I tried to tell the police that Noah whispered he was pushed, Valerie’s corrupt private security team ambushed my family. They blackmailed me with my father's medical debts and forced me into hiding."

Valerie hyperventilated on the floor, realizing her entire billion-dollar lie was violently collapsing into dust.

"She has no proof!" Valerie wailed desperately, looking around at the disgusted elite guests, begging for support. "It's her word against mine! She's crazy!"

Emily reached down toward the high slit of her white silk dress. Taped securely to her upper thigh, hidden entirely from Valerie’s invasive searches earlier in the coatroom, was a sleek, black digital audio recorder.

She pulled it out and held it up under the warm golden lighting.

"You loved bragging about your crimes when you thought Noah couldn't speak or understand you," Emily stated coldly, looking down at the monster. "When you locked him in the closet tonight, I slipped this recorder into the pocket of his wheelchair. It caught every single word."
