Chapter 8 - The Confrontation

I opened the door.
I didn't gasp. I didn't look terrified. I looked at the man who had lied to me for three years with absolute, chilling indifference.
"Emma," Dominic whispered, his voice cracking with raw, unadulterated emotion as his dark eyes immediately locked onto my heavily pregnant stomach. Tears welled up in his eyes. "You're... you're pregnant."
"I am," I replied calmly, resting my hand protectively over my baby.
"Why didn't you tell me?!" Dominic choked out, stepping forward, desperately wanting to touch me. "Emma, I was a fool! Vanessa lied to me! The baby wasn't mine! I threw everything away for nothing! Please, let me come home! Let me be a father to our child!"
He dropped to his knees right on my wooden porch, completely abandoning the terrifying, untouchable mafia boss persona. He wept openly, begging for a second chance.
I looked down at him. For five years, I had begged this man for a conversation. I had tiptoed around him, apologized for making noise, and managed his entire life while he secretly laughed at me.
"You don't get to be a father, Dominic," I stated, my voice devoid of any human mercy.
"Please!" he sobbed. "I can give you everything! I can give the baby the world!"

"I already have the world," I replied smoothly.
👉 Dominic thought his money could fix the betrayal, but the final, devastating piece of evidence was about to end his hope forever.
