Chapter 10 - The True Home

A month later, the mansion was completely transformed.

I wasn't wearing a faded pink maid’s dress anymore. I was wearing comfortable, casual clothes, helping the boys bake chocolate chip cookies in the massive kitchen. Flour was everywhere. The boys were laughing hysterically.

Mr. Sterling walked into the kitchen. He wasn't wearing a stiff suit. He wore a simple sweater, his face relaxed and genuinely happy. He had cut his hours at the office drastically, finally becoming the father his sons desperately needed.

He leaned against the marble counter, watching us with a warm, soft smile.

Julian ran over and handed his father a slightly burnt cookie. Mr. Sterling took a bite, making an exaggerated, dramatic face that made the boys scream with laughter.

He looked over at me, his eyes filled with absolute, profound gratitude.

I didn't just survive a false accusation; I had saved a family. The dark shadows of grief and cruelty were permanently banished from the estate. I had walked out the gates as a fired maid, but I had returned as the undisputed heart of the home.

If you were Emily, would you have demanded Victoria be arrested for child abuse, or was completely ruining her family's wealth the ultimate, perfect justice?
