Chapter 5 - The Innocent Witness

Mr. Sterling stopped. He looked down at his seven-year-old son in utter confusion.

"Julian, what are you talking about? I found the watch in her bag," Mr. Sterling said softly.

Julian slowly reached into the pocket of his pastel polo shirt. He didn't pull out a toy. He didn't pull out a piece of candy.

He pulled out a heavy, glittering diamond tennis bracelet.

Mr. Sterling completely froze. The cinematic realism of his profound shock paralyzed his muscles. That was Victoria’s bracelet. It was worth twenty thousand dollars, and she had claimed she lost it at a charity gala three weeks ago.

"Where did you get that?" Mr. Sterling whispered, staring at the diamonds.

"From under Victoria's mattress," Julian answered, his small voice trembling but absolute. "I was hiding under her bed playing hide-and-seek yesterday. I saw her hide the bracelet. She lied to you so you would buy her a new one."

The air in the driveway became suffocatingly tense.

Standing in the massive mahogany doorway of the mansion, Victoria suddenly went completely, horrifyingly pale. Her fake, sweet smile evaporated.

"Julian!" Victoria shrieked, her voice shrill and panicked. "Don't you dare lie to your father! Put that down!"

Julian ignored her. He looked dead into his father's eyes.

"She lied about the bracelet," Julian said loudly. "And she put the watch in Emily's bag."

Mr. Sterling’s head snapped toward Victoria. The bewildered, heartbroken widower completely vanished, violently replaced by a cold, terrifyingly sharp billionaire who had just caught a predator in his house.

👉 Julian nodded, and the horrific details he revealed next would completely shatter the wicked stepmother's world.
