Chapter 8 - The Desperate Apology

Mr. Sterling didn't care about his tailored navy blue suit.
He dropped to his knees right on the hard driveway asphalt. He reached out and wrapped his massive arms around Julian, Leo, and his middle son, burying his face in their blonde hair. He wept openly, completely shattered by his own blindness.
"I am so sorry," Mr. Sterling choked out, kissing his sons' heads. "I am so, so sorry I didn't see it. I swear to you, she will never, ever come near you again."
Then, he looked up at me.
The terrifying billionaire was gone. In his place was a desperate, heartbroken father who realized he had almost thrown away the most important person in his children's lives.
"Emily," Mr. Sterling whispered, his dark eyes filled with profound, overwhelming respect and raw guilt. "You stood between my sons and a monster, and I almost let her destroy you. I don't deserve your forgiveness."
I wiped the tears from my cheeks, peeling off my yellow rubber gloves. "I just wanted them to be safe, sir."
"They are only safe with you," he replied, his voice completely raw.
He reached out and gently took my hand, helping me stand up.
"I am tripling your salary immediately," Mr. Sterling vowed, the absolute power of his wealth backing every syllable. "You will have a private suite in the house, a personal vehicle, and full authority over this household. You are no longer just the maid. You are family."
