Chapter 10 - The True Family

The chaotic, frantic energy completely evaporated from the room.
Lauren let out a long, shuddering breath, her shoulders finally dropping. The exhausting weight of Ethan's abuse, the constant belittling, and the sheer terror of the last forty-eight hours were entirely gone. She was safe. Her daughters were safe.
Arthur walked over to his daughter, his eyes softening as he gently touched the soft cheek of the sleeping newborn in Lauren's arms.
"You did perfectly, sweetheart," Arthur smiled, a tear slipping down his cheek.
The heavy front doors opened again, and Owen and Caleb walked back into the kitchen. They weren't scowling corporate raiders anymore. They were smiling, eager uncles.
"Alright," Owen clapped his hands together, looking at the grocery bags Ethan had abandoned on the counter. "Who is hungry? Because I make a mean steak and eggs."
"I'll load up the new fridge," Caleb laughed, grabbing the bags and easily tossing the expensive food into the massive stainless-steel refrigerator. "Thanks for the upgrade, Ethan!"
Lauren smiled, a genuine, radiant smile that she hadn't felt in years. She watched her father and her brothers seamlessly take over the kitchen, filling the room with warmth, laughter, and fierce, unconditional love. They weren't disappointed in her daughters; they were absolutely mesmerized by them.
In the months that followed, Ethan’s company completely collapsed. He and Beverly were forced to live in a cheap motel while fighting massive federal fraud charges, completely abandoned by high society.

Do you think Ethan deserved to lose absolutely everything, or should Lauren have let him pack his clothes before kicking him out?
