Beverly let out a horrific, blood-curdling scream.

"You monsters!" she shrieked, pointing her manicured finger at Arthur and his sons. "You can't do this to him! He is a good man! And you can't touch me! I have my own money! Ethan transferred a hundred thousand dollars into my retirement account just this morning!"

Lauren looked at her mother-in-law, her hazel eyes flashing with absolute, terrifying vengeance.

"I know he did, Beverly," Lauren stated calmly, securing her newborn baby against her chest. "He transferred it from my private trust account. The one he illegally gained access to when he stole my phone at the hospital."

Beverly’s face turned the color of wet chalk. She instinctively touched her pearl earrings, taking a trembling step backward. "No... no, it was a gift!"

"It was felony wire fraud," Arthur corrected her smoothly, pulling a second document from his suit. "And receiving stolen funds over fifty thousand dollars is a federal crime. My legal team contacted the FBI exactly two hours ago. Your retirement accounts have been entirely seized pending a federal investigation."

"No!" Beverly wailed, dropping to her knees on the pristine kitchen floor, her navy dress pooling around her. "I'm a respectable woman! I go to the country club! You can't send me to prison!"

"You wanted my daughters to starve," Lauren replied, completely devoid of mercy. "You told me they were useless. Now, you get to see exactly what useless looks like when you are standing in front of a federal judge with a public defender."

Ethan was hyperventilating, clawing at his dark suit. He realized that in his arrogant attempt to punish his wife for having girls, he had completely, irrevocably destroyed his entire life and his mother's future.
