Chapter 7 - The Father's Fury
Seeing his precious, successful eldest daughter suddenly rendered speechless, the father’s confusion morphed into blinding rage. He couldn't handle the insubordination of a child questioning his golden child's accomplishments.
He took a heavy, threatening step toward Nora, his face burning red with anger.
"What did you fabricate, you little liar?" he growled, pointing a thick, aggressive finger inches from Nora’s face. "Your aunt is a doctor! She has been running research studies! How dare you make up vicious lies to protect your pathetic mother's house!"
Evelyn immediately jumped up, pulling Nora behind her back to protect her from her father’s wrath. "Don't you dare yell at my daughter! Back away from her!"
But Nora didn't want to hide. She stepped right back out from behind her mother’s white button-down shirt. She didn't flinch at her grandfather’s raised hand. She didn't cower. She simply maintained direct, piercing eye contact with Chloe, who was now trembling violently against the granite counter.
Nora knew exactly what she had found, and she knew exactly how much power it held.
