Chapter 5 - The Stolen Deed

The cinematic realism of the absolute, crushing betrayal paralyzed Nola in the dark office.

The documents were not a simple Christmas card. It was an irrevocable transfer of deed and a massive financial power of attorney.

Ruth had legally transferred the absolute ownership of the four-million-dollar family estate, along with complete control of her entire trust fund, directly to Nola. Attached to the deed was a handwritten letter from Ruth.

“Nola, my brilliant girl. Your mother is drowning in millions of dollars of hidden corporate debt. She has been forging my signature and quietly draining my retirement accounts for six months. I am giving everything to you to protect our family legacy. Do not let her sell this house.”

Elaine had intercepted the envelope under the Christmas tree, realized she was completely cut off, and swapped the documents for five hundred dollars to keep Nola entirely in the dark.

Suddenly, the blazing, harsh overhead lights of the home office violently snapped on.

Nola spun around, dropping the penlight onto the carpet.

Standing in the doorway was Elaine. The older woman wasn't wearing her elegant party clothes anymore; she wore a dark silk robe, holding a heavy brass fireplace poker in her right hand. The fake, sweet motherly smile was completely gone, replaced by the terrifying, twisted sneer of a desperate, cornered sociopath.

👉 Elaine stepped into the room, preparing to silence her own daughter to protect her multi-million-dollar fraud.
