Chapter 8 - The Lawyer's Arrival

"I wouldn't advise anyone to make an arrest just yet," a booming, razor-sharp voice echoed from the driveway.
Stepping out of the sleek black luxury sedan was Mr. Sterling. He was a sixty-year-old, incredibly ruthless corporate attorney wearing a flawless charcoal suit and carrying a heavy leather briefcase. He wasn't alone. Flanking him were three heavily armed federal agents wearing tactical vests.
Elaine physically staggered backward, all the color violently draining from her contoured face.
"Mr. Sterling?" Elaine stammered, her voice cracking in pure, unadulterated terror. "What are you doing here? This is a private family medical matter!"
Mr. Sterling marched directly up the front steps, completely ignoring the stunned medical orderlies. He stopped in front of Elaine, looking at her with absolute, unfiltered disgust.
"This is a federal crime scene, Elaine," Mr. Sterling stated clinically.
Ruth slowly walked out of the living room. She wasn't trembling. She wasn't confused. The eighty-one-year-old matriarch stood perfectly straight, her eyes blazing with the lethal, calculating fire of a billionaire who had just caught a thief in her vault.
"Mom?" Elaine gasped, retreating against the wall. "What is going on?"

👉 Ruth revealed the brilliant, devastating trap she had set, and Elaine realized her entire existence was turning to ash.
