Chapter 7 - The Desperate Rescue

The next morning, the harsh winter sun glared off the fresh snow covering the sprawling estate.
At exactly 7:55 AM, a sterile, white medical transport van pulled into the circular driveway. Two massive, imposing orderlies carrying a heavy canvas straightjacket and medical restraints marched up the front steps.
Elaine opened the heavy mahogany doors. She was back in her elegant, polished clothing, dabbing at her eyes with a lace handkerchief, flawlessly playing the role of the heartbroken, grieving daughter making a tragic medical decision.
"She’s in the living room," Elaine sniffled to the orderlies. "Please be gentle. Her dementia makes her violently paranoid. She might say terrible things about me."
The orderlies nodded, stepping into the grand foyer.
Suddenly, the violent, deafening screech of tires echoed across the property.
Nola’s car tore into the driveway, drifting wildly on the snow before slamming to a halt directly behind the medical transport van, completely blocking it from leaving.
Nola sprinted up the front steps, entirely ignoring the freezing wind. She physically threw herself between the massive orderlies and the living room doors.
"Nobody is touching my grandmother!" Nola screamed, her voice carrying absolute, undeniable authority.
