Chapter 3 - The Cold Resolve

A tight close-up captured Lauren’s face as the devastating realization hit her. Heavy, silent tears streamed down her pale cheeks.
"Sierra..." Lauren whispered, her voice completely heartbroken.
Sierra was Cole’s twenty-four-year-old "executive assistant." The girl who was always texting him late at night about "spreadsheet errors." The girl Cole swore was practically a child to him.
Lauren looked at the stunning pearl necklace. She looked down at her stained burgundy sweatshirt. She had given up her own lucrative career in finance to raise his children, to support his dreams, to build this life. And he was spending Christmas Eve wrapping twenty-thousand-dollar pearls around the neck of his assistant.
Lauren’s sadness didn't last. As she stared at the glowing city lights through the falling snow, the heartbreaking grief slowly morphed, hardening into a cold, terrifying resolve.
She carefully laid sleeping Noah into his clear bassinet next to Lily.
Lauren stood up. She walked over to the side table. With a completely expressionless face, she reached for her left hand. She slowly twisted her massive diamond wedding ring off her finger.
With a soft, metallic clink, she placed her wedding ring directly next to the mistress’s gift.
She picked up her glowing smartphone. Her hands were no longer shaking. She dialed a number she hadn't called for help in over three years.
The line rang twice.
"Mom," Lauren said, her voice trembling slightly but laced with absolute, unbreakable resolution. "I need help with the babies."
Suddenly, Cole’s name lit up on her phone screen. An incoming call.
Lauren glared at the screen with absolute clarity, and hit decline.
