Chapter 7 - The Lockout

Cole threw on his clothes in a frantic, blinding panic. He completely ignored Sierra’s confused questions, grabbing his coat and sprinting out of the hotel room.
He flagged down a taxi in the snow, his mind racing. It was a mistake. It had to be a bank error. Lauren was too weak, too exhausted to pull something like this off. She was probably sitting on the couch in her sweatpants right now.
The taxi pulled up to his luxury high-rise building.
Cole stormed through the revolving glass doors, marching directly toward the VIP elevators.
"Mr. Vance, wait!"
Cole turned. The building's head concierge, a man who usually bowed to Cole’s every demand, stepped directly into his path, flanked by two massive security guards.
"What is it, Marcus? I'm in a hurry," Cole snapped aggressively, adjusting his silver cufflinks.
"I'm sorry, sir, but you are no longer permitted upstairs," the concierge stated, his tone completely devoid of its usual warmth.
Cole laughed in utter disbelief. "Excuse me? I live in the penthouse!"
"Not anymore, sir," the concierge replied smoothly. "The primary leaseholder, Eleanor Hayes, contacted building management at 2:00 AM. Your name has been officially removed from the registry. The locks have been digitally changed."
Cole’s face turned the color of wet chalk.
He looked past the security guards. Sitting neatly in the corner of the lobby, completely isolated, were four black heavy-duty trash bags.
"Your wife packed your personal belongings, sir," the concierge added. "She requested we bring them down to you."

Cole stared at the trash bags containing his expensive suits. He was completely locked out.
