Chapter 5 - The Digital Trail

Lauren’s exhausted eyes suddenly sparked with a lethal, terrifying focus.

"Documented infidelity," Lauren repeated softly.

She walked over to Cole’s home office desk. He was so arrogant, so incredibly confident that his exhausted, stay-at-home wife would never snoop, that he had left his iPad charging on the desk.

Lauren picked it up. She knew his passcode—it was his own birthday.

She unlocked the screen and immediately opened his iMessage app. The texts with Sierra weren't even hidden.

Lauren read through months of sickening messages. Messages where Cole mocked Lauren for gaining baby weight. Messages where he complained about the twins crying. But it was the most recent thread that made Lauren’s blood boil.

Cole: "The pearls are secured. See you at the Four Seasons penthouse at 8. Tell the realtor we’ll sign the lease on your new condo on Monday."

Sierra: "I can't wait, baby. Did you transfer the funds?"

Cole: "Just moved $100k from the joint account. She never checks it. She’s too busy washing bottles."

Lauren felt physically sick. He hadn't just bought a necklace. He was using the money her family gave him to buy his mistress a luxury condo.

Lauren didn't cry. She hit 'Select All.'

She forwarded every single text, every bank transfer receipt, and every photo to her personal email, and then directly to her mother’s high-powered divorce attorney.

"Mom," Lauren said, looking up from the glowing screen as the snow whipped against the glass outside. "I want him out. Tonight."
