Chapter 6 - The Ultimate Betrayal

“Keep your mouth shut,” the sergeant barked, shoving David’s face back against the drywall.
Just as my mind was struggling to process the sheer insanity of my husband hiding like a rat under our living room, another officer emerged from the hidden hatch.
He wasn't alone.
He was dragging a young, terrified woman by her wrist. She was wearing silk pajamas. Her blonde hair was a mess, and she was crying hysterically, trying to hide her face from the harsh glare of the police flashlights.
It was Chloe. David’s twenty-two-year-old "executive assistant."
The floor completely dropped out from beneath me. The nausea hit me in a violent wave. David wasn't in Chicago. He hadn't been on any business trips for the last six months. While I was upstairs cooking, cleaning, and raising our daughter, he had been living in a secret, luxury bunker beneath our feet with his mistress.
“Emily, I can explain!” David desperately pleaded, struggling against the handcuffs. “It’s not what it looks like! I just needed a private workspace, and Chloe was helping me with a massive project!”
“A project in pajamas at three in the morning?” Mr. Henderson sneered from the doorway, shaking his head in absolute disgust.
The fourth officer finally came up from the basement. He wasn't holding a weapon. He was holding two laptops, a stack of legal documents, and a small, unlabeled bottle of pills.

“Sergeant,” the officer said, his voice laced with pure disgust. “You need to see what they have set up down there. It’s not just a love nest. It’s a full surveillance hub. They have cameras hidden in every single room of this house.”
👉 What sickening plan was David plotting on those laptops?
