Chapter 7 - The Masterplan Unveiled

The sergeant grabbed one of the open laptops from his deputy. He looked at the screen, his face hardening into a mask of pure fury. He turned the screen around so I could see it.

There were twelve live video feeds grid-locked on the monitor.

I saw my kitchen. I saw Lily’s bedroom. I saw the inside of my own bathroom. Every intimate, private moment of my life for the last six months had been secretly recorded and monitored by my husband and his mistress.

But the surveillance wasn't even the worst part.

The officer handed the sergeant the stack of legal documents. “We found a whiteboard down there, sir. Along with these drafted papers. The husband wasn't just cheating. He was trying to drive her insane.”

I stared at the paperwork. My name was bolded at the top: PETITION FOR INVOLUNTARY PSYCHIATRIC COMMITMENT.

“What is this?” I choked out, my hands trembling uncontrollably as I read the words.

“They were documenting a fake medical history,” the sergeant explained gently to me, shooting a lethal glare at David. “According to the whiteboard downstairs, he’s been slipping hallucinogens and heavy sedatives into your food and drinks. The pills in that unmarked bottle. He was trying to artificially induce a psychotic break.”

Suddenly, the pieces violently snapped together. The severe brain fog I had experienced lately. The times I thought I heard voices whispering through the floorboards. The extreme paranoia. It wasn't stress. David had been actively poisoning me and playing audio tricks through the vents to make me think I was losing my mind.
