Chapter 1 - The Spaghetti Secret

The American suburban dining room was bathed in warm, comfortable indoor lighting, looking like a picture-perfect family evening. Plates of spaghetti sat on the heavy wooden table.
But the suffocating, terrifying tension in the room had just violently shattered the peaceful atmosphere.
Megan, a hardworking woman in her early thirties wearing a crisp white long-sleeve shirt with her brunette hair pulled into a messy bun, sat frozen holding her fork.
Her five-year-old son, Toby, had just looked up from his spaghetti and completely destroyed her reality.
"Mommy," Toby asked in a sweet, entirely innocent voice. "Who's taking Ruby and Finn to school when Aunt Kelsey flies to Colorado?"
Across the table, Grant, Megan’s husband of seven years, stopped eating instantly. Wearing a casual gray sweater, his handsome face turned the color of wet ash. He looked incredibly guilty, his eyes darting around the room in absolute panic.
"Buddy, just eat your dinner," Grant muttered nervously, desperately trying to silence his son and protect the massive secret.
Megan slowly set down her water glass. The cinematic realism of her absolute, world-shattering shock paralyzed the room. She turned her head toward her sister-in-law, Kelsey.
Kelsey was a thirty-something blonde woman wearing a burgundy hoodie. Instead of explaining, Kelsey looked away nervously, suddenly deeply fascinated with folding her paper napkin, completely avoiding eye contact.
"What airplane?" Megan asked, her voice dropping into a firm, freezing register.
"I got a job in Denver," Kelsey casually admitted, incredibly defensive. "They can stay here."
Megan slowly turned her glare to her husband, realizing he had known about this massive betrayal the entire time. "How long have you known?"

Grant cowardly avoided her eyes, shifting uncomfortably under his wife's furious, piercing gaze. "We were going to tell you."
👉 Megan didn't scream, but the cold, calculating fury in her eyes signaled the beginning of an absolute bloodbath.
