Chapter 2 - The Sister's Smirk

The cinematic realism of the suffocating, paralyzing tension gripped the kitchen.
Standing right beside the kitchen island was Arthur’s younger sister, Chloe. She was in her late twenties, wearing a striking red satin dress, her long wavy blonde hair falling perfectly over her shoulders.
Chloe didn't gasp. She didn't rush forward to help her sister-in-law up from the floor.
Instead, she let out a small, incredibly satisfied smirk. She crossed her arms tightly over her chest, thoroughly enjoying the public humiliation.
Chloe looked down at the dark, spreading puddle of coffee staining the beautiful white marble floor, and then looked directly at her brother’s wife.
"Clean that too," Chloe sneered, her voice dripping with cruel, toxic entitlement.
Sitting elegantly at the massive breakfast table was their mother, Eleanor. A woman in her early sixties with perfectly styled blonde hair, wearing a dark green outfit and heavy pearl jewelry, Eleanor didn't even flinch when the slap echoed through the room. She calmly took a sip of her orange juice, completely dismissive of the violence happening two feet away.
Sitting right behind Eleanor was the patriarch of the family, a man in his mid-sixties with short gray hair, wearing a sharp dark suit. He didn't even lower the morning newspaper he was reading.
